| | In 1994 I left my job at Niagara Mohawk to go into business for myself. This decision was prompted by my daughter's suicide that took place on Dec. 17 of 1993. Although I had a very good paying position and wonderful benefits with the company it no longer met my needs. I needed to take my daughter's horrific act and create something useful out of it, and this was purely out of survival. So She's Unlimited became a means for my healing as well as my financial security. She's Unlimited consists of my traveling and speaking at colleges, churches, agencies, etc. on the topics of self esteem and self worth. Since that time the company has grown in leaps and bounds. I also facilitate workshops and seminars. Leann was a wonderfully bright ambitous young woman of 25. Worked for the local PHP medical office did volunteer work for the DA's office and did modeling part time. Her life consisted of all the many things that many young women do. Work, socialize, live in an apartment, and raise pets and water flowers. Water skies on the weekend, roller blade, and ski in the winter; take long walks with her fiancé, picnic in the park and love life in general. One Friday evening she decided to go to the local pub where all her friends hung out with her best girl friend to have a couple of drinks and wind down from the weeks stresses. She left a note for her boyfriend telling him where she was and who she was with. She invited him to join them if he w! ould like. I have never endured anything more painful in my life. My heart goes out to all who have experienced such a horrific experience. Last year Stretch Your Heart requested a proclamation from the city of Syracuse and the county of Onondaga, NY. The proclamation declared June 13th "SUICIDE ERADICATION DAY". A silent vigil was held in the center of down town that day. We handed out hearts with the number 17 on which represent how many minutes a suicide occurs in the US. Later that evening we held a short healing service at a local church followed by a soup and bread sharing, in the basement, after wards where people could congregate, meet for the first time possibly and share their experience, strength, and hope. We will do the same this year and we ask that people in other area please gather their friends and family members and hold their own events on June 13th. Email us or call and we will assist you in anyway possible for your event. | |
